"My friend was amazed at how well you understood the way she was feeling." Dawn The most important relationship you have is the one with yourself. Allison Maltby |
![]() About AllisonI first really started my spiritual journey when I went travelling in my twenties. Although I’d always been aware of ‘something’, I never knew what the something was! Travelling opened up new pathways and like most journeys, it took me to places I hadn’t envisaged going, but which were good for me nevertheless. I suppose I really did take the road less travelled, although it didn’t seem like it at the time. I was drawn to working with crystals without knowing why. All I knew was that I had to have them and that I could feel the energy coming from them. At times I would think I don’t need any crystal in this shop and the next moment I would be at the counter saying "I’ll have this one please!" My collection started to grow, and continues to do so until this day. Probably the experience that sticks most in my mind is being in a Mind Body Spirit bookshop in Canada, and knowing that I needed something but wasn’t sure what. An experience most of us could probably put our hands up to. Anyway I was drawn to a large book called Hands of Light, as I could feel the energy coming off the front cover. I felt compelled to purchase the book even though I didn’t have that much room in my backpack. Anyone who has seen me with my backpack will know that this would have been no small feat, as I am still working on that old adage of travelling light! There was no getting away with not purchasing the book, as I physically could not leave the shop. As soon as I bought the book I was out of the shop like a shot. It never ceases to amaze me how spirit work to get you the things you need most in life, and sometimes they are most insistent! It wasn’t until I returned to the UK, and to Norwich in particular that things started to fall into place. I attended the St Gregory’s Mind Body Spirit fair in Norwich, and was drawn to the healing stand on the stage; again without knowing why. I approached the stand to look at the books they had there, and low and behold there was my book! Now just because I had been told to buy the book, didn’t mean I had felt compelled to read it. To have the book was sufficient in itself. That was to be my first experience of receiving healing, and wow, was it to change my life. I felt so energised, that my first reaction was “I’ve got to know more about this”. The feeling stayed with me all day, a feeling of having found what I was looking for, without knowing that I was looking. I attended a couple of workshops and subsequently joined a local healer support and development group. By this time I was well and truly hooked. I trained through the National Federation of Spiritual Healers and became a full healer member. I continue to be a registered healer member of the NFSH. It was not until a few years later that kinesiology came into my life. As the saying goes, when the student is ready the teacher appears, and so it was with kinesiology. It was a major turning point in my life, as I was looking for another therapy and didn’t know what. I remember a friend suggesting kinesiology and then quite clearly stating “oh no, I don’t want to do that!” Little was I to know. Like most people, I didn’t really know what kinesiology was, what it entailed and how it worked. Spirit definitely had other ideas as I found myself enrolling on the courses and all barriers were removed for me. I received all the help I needed, including a lift to actually attend the course. It was the biggest learning curve for me that I had experienced in some time, but I was hooked by it straight away. I loved the way it worked and the results it gave. Importantly I was able to integrate the healing with the kinesiology, and this continues to be the case today. Initially I began training as a Brain Gym therapist and an Optimum Health Balance practitioner. I subsequently trained as an Optimum Health Balance practitioner and an Optimum Health Balance Self Help facilitator, as this way of working suited me best. This kinesiology also incorporates Touch for Health as foundation training. I am a Kinesiology Federation Registered Practitioner (KFRP). I give talks and offer workshops about kinesiology and helping ourselves to health at venues throughout East Anglia. Reiki was the next energy therapy that I was drawn to. Although similar to healing, there are subtle differences that differentiate it. It added another dimension to my work, as different people are drawn to different therapies. Reiki may be given as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with kinesiology. I was first introduced to The Bowen Technique 13 years ago, but as with some things, I wasn’t in the right time or place to pursue it then. There is an old saying that says when the student is ready the teacher appears, and I subsequently trained with the European College of Bowen Studies. I was drawn to study The Bowen Technique as I was looking for an additional therapy that complemented the way in which I currently work. Importantly I wanted to offer a physical form of body work that drew on my knowledge of anatomy and physiology. I also wanted to offer a hands-on therapy for those clients who prefer a more physical way of working. The Bowen Technique offered such an opportunity. My way of working started to develop in different directions in 2011 when I began using additional ways of clearing energy. This has since developed into The Maltby Technique. I am now able to access and clear energy patterns that are held in your body as my body acts as a mirror and picks up on what is going on in your body. Your body directs my hands to where the energy ‘threads’ are not connected properly, and by means of ‘clicks and flicks’ clears the line. It appears to access information about past traumas, injuries and karmic patterns. As an energy therapy it works on the highest aspect of you to help you clear any pattern that holds you back. My overall philosophy is that I am here to help you to help yourself to health. My aim is to empower you to be all that you can be, so that you live the life you want to live.
