The Five Reiki principles

The five Reiki principles have been given as a means through which we may live a spiritual life.  Many people may see Reiki as merely a powerful healing technique.  Yet if we choose to develop ourselves to our fullest potential, it also gives us principles by which we may grow to live spiritually.  These are at the heart of Reiki. 

The following principles are the traditional Western version. 

Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honour your parents, teachers, and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to every living thing.

I have also seen an alternative version, which to me seems to embody how Reiki is evolving in the West.

I will give thanks for my many blessings
I will not worry
I will not be angry
I will do my work honestly
I will be kind to my neighbour, honour my parents and be kind to every living thing.

For me, this transcends all cultural differences as it is something that we can all aspire to.
