What may I expect during a Reiki session?

What you experience in a Reiki session is unique to you.  I ensure that you have the time and space you need to receive Reiki in a place that is safe, relaxing and non-judgemental.

Everyone experiences different things when receiving Reiki.  You may feel warmth or tingling, or you may feel cool or nothing at all.  It is not necessary to feel anything to receive the benefits of Reiki.  Each Reiki session is individual to you, and you may feel different things at each session.  Indeed you can feel different things from different Reiki practitioners.  The important thing is how you feel after the Reiki session.  Most people feel relaxed and energised.

The first Reiki appointment is longer than subsequent appointments as I take a full case history from you.  This gives an indication of what you and your body have been through.  All the information you give is confidential and helps to ensure that I help you with the issues that are important to you.  A full Reiki session follows this, so you get to experience how Reiki may help you from your first session.  This appointment generally lasts about an hour and a quarter.

Subsequent appointments generally last about an hour, as we spend a short time reviewing the previous Reiki session before moving onto current issues that maybe affecting your health.  Feedback is always important, as it helps brings into awareness any changes that you may have experienced in the interim period, and also enables you to see how far you have come on your Reiki journey.

The Reiki session is generally conducted fully clothed and lying down on a couch.  If you find it difficult to lie down on a couch, Reiki may be conducted sat in a comfortable armchair.  I always advise plenty of water after receiving Reiki, as this helps your body process and let go of anything it no longer wants.

People often ask how often they should come for Reiki.  It’s a bit like working with layers of an onion.  You take off one layer at a time with each Reiki session.  So it depends upon your own personal circumstances and what you want to achieve.  Typically people start off by coming once a week to start the process.  I usually say try it once to see how you get on, and then have a Reiki session once a week for three weeks to see whether it is for you.  You may then review the progress you have made, and decide what to do next.  Often we start to spread out the intervals between each Reiki session.  Some people come once every month for Reiki to maintain the progress they have made, others once a season.  Indeed, some people only come once, as it sorts the health issue they came with.  It is entirely up to you.
